Keeping your skin hydrated this summer
Summer is here! The sun’s out, temperatures are up, our skin has a golden glow: there’s no better feeling! However, stifling heat, warm breezes and sea water can dehydrate our skin...
La Cure Beauté has a few ideas on how to keep your skin soft and naturally hydrated, in addition to your beauty routine:
Drink lots of water! Did you know that you should drink 1 to 1.5 liters of water per day and up to 2 liters in hot weather? If you’re not a fan of drinking water, eat some melon or watermelon: they’re full of water!
It’s important to protect your skin from the sun: use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more.
Keep a close eye on what you’re eating! Choose foods that are naturally rich in carotenoids (or beta-carotene), a pigment that creates a gorgeous golden glow and also promotes the production of melanin (the hormone that helps us tan!) on the skin’s surface. What’s more, beta-carotene is an antioxidant that protects the skin from UV radiation. It’s found in all orange fruit and vegetables, including apricots, mangoes, peppers, melons, peaches and even sweet potatoes!
Focus on vitamins A and C: they’re packed with antioxidants and are excellent for the dermis and the epidermis.
Limit anything that leaves your skin feeling dehydrated: air conditioning, alcohol and hot showers, for example.
